Who we are

Heroes for Hector is put together by friends and family of Hector Martinez. From his Law Enforcement family to his family at home, we all stand beside him as he battles cancer. Hector has been with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in the Corrections Division for 16 years.

In April of 2025, Hector was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma which is a rare, very fast-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system's B-lymphocytes. Symptoms can include painless swelling of the lymph nodes, a large abdominal tumor, fever, and night sweats. Treatment is aggressive and primarily involves chemotherapy. Hector’s treatment has been aggressive and has left him paralyzed.

Thank you for purchasing a coin in his honor. Each purchase goes back to the Martinez family to help them as they transition from the life they had known to a new reality of using and accommodating a wheelchair. Hector’s cancer has left him paralyzed but no matter what, his furfure will always be bright.
